About Me
Counselor. Educator. Creator. Frequent Flyer to Hell and Back.
I’m Bob Zima, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, author, podcaster, speaker, and creator of Healing YOUR Anger.
For more than 20 years, I have helped individuals and couples understand anger, resentment, anxiety, addiction, grief, relationship conflict, broken trust, and the difficult work of rebuilding a life after everything goes sideways.
I hold a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. My professional experience includes leading community mental-health centers, providing psychiatric emergency assessments and hospital training, operating a private counseling practice, presenting workshops and keynote addresses, and teaching master’s-level counseling students as an adjunct professor.
But degrees and professional titles tell only part of my story.
A Frequent Flyer to Hell and Back
I don’t teach healing solely from a textbook.
My own travels have included addiction and recovery, bankruptcy and homelessness, infidelity and a marriage pushed near its breaking point, the deaths of two infant children, serious heart problems, and two open-heart surgeries.
I have screwed up, fallen apart, gotten back up, rebuilt, and learned a few things along the way.
That is why I call myself a Frequent Flyer to Hell and Back. I know what it is like to experience hurt, fear, disappointment, shame, grief, uncertainty, and the overwhelming temptation to respond in angry and destructive ways.
Healing is difficult. It can be messy, frustrating, frightening, and exhausting. But healing is possible—especially when we stop blaming everyone else, become honest about what is happening inside us, and start making healthier choices.
Why I Created Healing YOUR Anger
Too many people are told to “manage their anger” without ever learning what creates it.
Healing YOUR Anger takes a different approach.
I believe anger is a set of behaviors fueled by automatic emotions—primarily hurt and fear—and physical reactions. Those responses are driven by how we interpret what is happening around us.
An event occurs. We decide what it means. Our emotions and body respond. We select a behavior. That behavior creates an outcome.
When we understand that process, we gain the ability to interrupt it.
Healing YOUR Anger helps you examine your thoughts, beliefs, emotional reactions, physical responses, needs, behaviors, and outcomes. The goal is not to eliminate anger. The goal is to understand what drives your anger and develop healthier, more effective ways to respond.
Change the interpretation. Change the behavior. Change the outcome.
